Fine-needle aspiration

Fine-needle aspiration, also called a fine needle biopsy or FNA biopsy, is a method of collecting a biopsy sample to look for signs of cancer, infection, or other conditions. During a fine-needle aspiration, a health professional inserts a thin needle into a suspicious lump or area to remove cells, fluid, or tissue. The sample is then examined under a microscope.
