Intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG)

Intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) is a type of medicine made from donated blood plasma. IVIG is made from a part of the blood that fights infections.

Some types of IVIG can be used to reduce the risk of infection if you have a weakened immune system. Other types can be used to prevent infection if you've been exposed to certain viruses. IVIG can also be used as treatment for immune system problems that were present at birth. And it can be used in newborns to treat some types of serious anemia. It can also be used in some autoimmune conditions.
