Cone cells

Cone cells are a type of cell in the retina, the layer at the back of the eye that responds to light. Cone cells detect color.

There are three types of cones: red, green, and blue. People with color vision problems may have different amounts of each cone type, or they may be completely missing one, two, or three of the cone types.
