Important Recall Information

Print

McNeil Consumer Healthcare has voluntarily recalled all lots of certain children's and infant's liquid medications including certain over-the-counter Tylenol, Motrin, Zyrtec and Benadryl. This precautionary recall is due to some products containing higher concentrations, containing inactive ingredients that may not meet internal testing requirement, and others containing tiny particles. Consumers can contact the company at 1.888.222.6036 and www.mcneilproductrecall.com for a complete listing of all products recalled and additional information. Any adverse reactions may also be reported to the FDA’s MedWatch Program by fax at 1.800.FDA.0178, by mail at MedWatch, FDA, 5600 Fishers Lane, Rockville, MD 20852-9787, or on the website at www.fda.gov/medwatch.

Parents should not give these recalled medications to children. Contact your health care provider or pharmacist for an alternative medication if you are unsure. Consumers should not return this medication to the store. The company is offering consumers two options if they have purchased products affected by this recall. Consumers can get a refund for average retail price or receive a coupon for a free replacement when available by contacting the company at the above number or filling out a form on the website. You will need the product’s NDC number and lot number in order to receive a refund or coupon. Product NDC numbers, which are unique numbers to identify each product, can be located on the label of the bottle above the brand name. The lot number can be found on the box that the product was sold in and on the actual bottle itself.

How should one dispose of their recalled medications? It is not recommended to dispose of any medications by flushing them down the toilet or pouring them down the sink or storm drain due to potentially harmful effects to the environment and our water systems. Some communities and pharmacies have take-back programs that will dispose of these medications for you. Contact your local pharmacy or community authority to see if these programs are available in your area. In the event that medicines can not be disposed by take-back programs, place them in the household trash taking the following steps. Make sure that they are in a sealable plastic bag or container; ensuring that children, pets, and others do not have access to the contents of the container. The medication can be mixed with cat litter, sawdust, coffee grounds or any other substance that makes it less appealing to pets and children. Dispose of the container in household trash. You can visit www.smarxtdisposal.net for more information regarding how to dispose of unused medications.
